Gabane Pottery

At Gabane, southwest of Mogoditshane in the greater capital region, the pottery business continues the craft enterprise formerly known as Pelegano. This is a working shop rather than an archaeological display. Look at the traditional patterns and ask how pieces are made and used, arranging any production visit with the team instead of assuming demonstrations are automatic.

Regional excursion: Manyana village, southwest of Mogoditshane

Manyana Rock Paintings

The paintings occupy several sections of a cliff at Manyana, outside Mogoditshane. Animal figures, people and geometric marks give plenty to examine without touching the surface or rushing between panels. Entry depends on the custodian, whose explanation can help separate visible evidence from interpretation. Keep the encounter focused on the artwork and its setting within the village landscape.

Regional excursion: near Kumakwane, west of Gaborone

Kolobeng Livingstone Memorial

Kolobeng marks David Livingstone's former mission near Kumakwane, west of the capital and beyond Mogoditshane. The surviving site is modest, so a visit benefits from historical explanation rather than an expectation of furnished buildings. Consider the meeting of missionary ambitions and Bakwena authority here, and use the remains to ask whose experiences different accounts preserve.

A note before you go. Arrange a driver or vehicle for the regional stops: Gabane, Manyana and Kolobeng are separate places outside Mogoditshane. Manyana's fenced rock-art site requires its custodian for entry, so resolve access before committing to the circuit. Ask Gabane Pottery about visiting its working premises.
