This policy covers the Elsewhere website hosted on ChatGPT Sites. Elsewhere is the project name. Our displayed address, [email protected], is an illustrative address and is not an active mailbox. This edition has no user accounts, online booking, or email subscription service.
Information used to deliver the website
Visiting the site sends ordinary connection and request information to our hosting provider so it can serve pages and assets. This can include an IP address, browser information, requested URL, and request time. Hosting infrastructure may maintain operational logs under its own practices; Elsewhere does not set a separate retention period for those provider logs.
Search and URL parameters
Destination searches and article filters run in your browser using a locally downloaded index. Search text and filters may appear in the page URL and browser history. A URL requested from the host may appear in ordinary hosting logs. Do not enter sensitive personal information in search boxes.
Local trip plans
Your chosen stops, trip dates, transport preferences, and notes are saved in this browser under elsewhere.v1.trips. They are not uploaded to an Elsewhere account or server. You can remove a plan on the Saved page or download a text copy. Clearing browser storage removes these plans. Do not enter sensitive booking, identity, or payment information in trip notes.
Saved places and local storage
When you bookmark a destination or article, your browser stores the collection in localStorage under elsewhere.v1.saved. It is not synchronized to an Elsewhere account or uploaded to a personal collection database. The collection remains until you remove it, clear browser storage, or your browser removes it. You can remove items, clear the collection, or export a copy on the Saved page.
Homepage choices and local dates
The homepage varies its journal selections on refresh. sessionStorage remembers the last lead story within this browsing session to avoid repeating it immediately. This preference is not sent to an Elsewhere database. Article edition dates use your device’s configured time zone locally; the site does not request your location or use an IP-geolocation service for that display.
Contact message drafts
The contact form prepares a message in your browser. It does not send a submission to an Elsewhere server, and the fields are not stored by the site. Copy draft places the text on your device clipboard. Open email app passes the draft to your chosen email application, where that provider’s practices apply. The example address cannot receive messages; opening a draft is not confirmation of delivery.
Photography, fonts, and external maps
Fonts and all journal, destination, and country photographs are served locally with this static website. No separate image delivery service is contacted while you browse. Interactive maps remain unloaded until you choose Load interactive map. That action connects to OpenStreetMap, which receives request information under its own privacy policy. Google Maps search and route links send the selected place names, addresses, order of stops, and transport mode to Google when you open the link. Links to source material, photographer pages, and external maps take you to websites with their own practices.
Advertising, analytics, and email
No advertising network, analytics tracker, newsletter list, or marketing cookie service is active in this edition. The site has inactive advertising placement hooks. Before enabling services that collect additional information, the publisher must update these disclosures and configure any applicable choices or consent mechanisms.
Your controls
You can read and search without making an account. Saving and loading a map are optional. Clear all on the Saved page removes the locally stored collection. Browser settings can remove or block local storage; blocking it prevents saves but does not stop article reading. Clear a prepared contact draft using Reset form.
