THE SHORTLIST

A few places worth your time.

Villa de Leyva

Museo Paleontológico

A focused fossil collection offers a way into the region’s deep past. Choose this museum if you would rather understand the objects than fit in every small museum in town. It also makes an indoor alternative to a countryside outing. Confirm the visitor entrance before setting off, as several local attractions have similar fossil-related names.

Regional outing outside the historic centre

El Fósil

The large marine-reptile fossil is a reason to leave the central streets for the surrounding countryside. Treat the journey as a separate visit and check the exact destination on the map. It complements a town museum, but seeing both is most useful if fossils are a real interest rather than another box to tick.

Historic centre

Casa Museo Antonio Nariño

The former home connects the town with an independence-era figure through his possessions and domestic setting. It works well as a deliberately small history stop. Keep it distinct from the museum associated with Antonio Ricaurte: the similar first names can be confusing when searching for addresses or arranging a meeting point.

A note before you go. Start with Museo Paleontológico, then decide whether El Fósil deserves a separate visit rather than rushing both. The suggested days are an editable grouping, not a timed tour. Visit allowances exclude transfers, meals and queues; confirm the exact entrance and current visiting arrangements for Casa Museo Antonio Nariño before setting off.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

A more practical kind of plan.

Build a route that makes sense

Keep Museo Paleontológico as the anchor for one day and Casa Museo Antonio Nariño for the other. Check their exact entrances on the map before adding further stops; a town name alone is not a reliable meeting point.
