THE SHORTLIST

A few places worth your time.

01Culture · DAY 1 IDEA

Trg marsala Tita 11/52210 Rovinj

Rovinj Heritage Museum

The museum is housed in a Baroque palace that in the 17th and 18th century belonged to the Califfi counts. It was founded in 1954 by a group of artists from Rovinj with the intention of collecting and exhibiting works of art. Today it serves as a town gallery and as a place where its rich bank of works of art is permanently exhibited.

Old town hill

Church of St Euphemia

The church crowns the old town and gives a clear destination to the uphill lanes. Approach slowly through the historic streets, allowing for the uneven surfaces rather than planning by map distance alone. Visiting the church and climbing its bell tower are different decisions; confirm tower access before adding the climb to your plan.

Historic centre

Balbi Arch and Grisia

The old gateway and artists’ street make a natural introduction to Rovinj’s historic centre. Follow the lanes on foot rather than expecting a single straight boulevard. This is a neighbourhood walk, with room to stop at work that catches your eye; asking permission before photographing a gallery is part of a considerate visit.

Valdibora

Valdibora Market

The open-air market brings a food-focused stop to an itinerary otherwise dominated by stone streets and harbour views. Look for the region’s olive oil, produce and other food traditions, and ask where an item comes from before buying. Plan it earlier than an evening stroll rather than assuming the stalls keep restaurant hours.

A note before you go. Start with Rovinj Heritage Museum, then decide whether Church of St Euphemia deserves a separate visit rather than rushing both. The suggested days are an editable grouping, not a timed tour. Visit allowances exclude transfers, meals and queues; confirm the exact entrance and current visiting arrangements for Valdibora Market before setting off.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

A more practical kind of plan.

Getting your bearings

Rovinj and the surrounding area are small, and are easily accessible on foot. Bicycle hire is quite inexpensive in Rovinj and there are very good cycle tracks along the coast.

Build a route that makes sense

Keep Rovinj Heritage Museum as the anchor for one day and Valdibora Market for the other. Check their exact entrances on the map before adding further stops; a town name alone is not a reliable meeting point.
