Use Stella Maris as a starting point for understanding the streets behind the seafront. The church was built in the nineteenth century and became the centre of the growing parish. Look at its place among the surrounding houses, then enter if visitors are welcome; a quiet circuit and a short neighbourhood walk make a more rewarding visit than a doorway photograph.

Sliema coastal promenade
The council records that this coastal garden replaced a former farm in 1990. Make it a resting point on the promenade, looking between the planted space, the road and the open sea. Its interest lies in the everyday use of a small urban garden, so leave time to sit and observe before continuing along the coast.

Tower Road coast, Sliema
Explore the rock-cut bathing pools and the irregular limestone edge from the shore. Malta’s official bathing profile identifies this as a rocky coastal bathing area beside Tower Road. The pools make a distinctive foreground for watching the sea, but the visit works equally well as a coastal walk without entering the water or using commercial facilities.

A note before you go. Link Independence Gardens and Fond Għadir along the waterfront, then turn inland for Stella Maris rather than repeatedly crossing town. The official bathing profile places Fond Għadir beside Tower Road and identifies a rocky shore with cut pools; allow for uneven access and decide on swimming separately from the walk.
