Regional excursion: Lake Samsitu, about 14 km west of Rundu
The Mbunza Living Museum is a community enterprise presenting pre-colonial Kavango traditions in a purpose-built village beside Lake Samsitu. Choose an interpreted programme and ask about the relationship between the materials, skills and local environment. Its value is the opportunity for explanation and exchange with the hosts, while recognizing that the display deliberately represents a historical setting.

Regional excursion: west of Rundu, Hakusembe River Lodge
Hakusembe offers organized boat activities that place the river and its birds at the centre of the visit. Contact the lodge to arrange a suitable outing and establish whether river conditions allow it. The view from the water complements the museum and market, but the experience should follow the operator's route and arrangements rather than an improvised launch.

A note before you go. For Mbunza, the foundation gives directions along the B10, followed by a gravel approach, about 14 kilometres west of Rundu. Ask about that last section because flooding can alter vehicle access. Hakusembe's boat activities depend on river levels and require direct arrangements.
