Île Perseverance residential district

A modest walk along public streets introduces a major housing development built on reclaimed land. Notice the neighbourhood's contemporary layout and relationship to the surrounding coast without treating residents' homes as exhibits. Keep photography wide and impersonal, avoid school grounds and private courtyards, and let a local host suggest an appropriate short route.

Victoria; road trip from Perseverance

National Museum of History

Travel into Victoria to place the modern district within the longer story of the islands. Ask about the museum's current historical displays and follow a theme such as settlement or daily work through the collections. Leave time for the written interpretation; this indoor stop complements, rather than attempts to explain entirely, the residential landscape seen earlier.

Northwest Mahé; separate drive from Perseverance

Beau Vallon Beach

Make a separate outing across to Beau Vallon's long beach for a different relationship between community, visitor facilities and shoreline. Choose a manageable beach walk and leave time to sit beneath the coastal trees where permitted. Check conditions before swimming and arrange the trip back to Perseverance rather than assuming transport will be waiting after sunset.

Arrange transport into Victoria for the museum and a separate return trip to Beau Vallon.
