Main Street, beside the New River
The cultural centre’s permanent and temporary exhibitions trace Orange Walk from Maya history to the present. Its riverside setting is part of the story: the name recalls the little benches where people gathered. Spend time connecting the displays with the New River outside before continuing into town along the heritage trail.

Central Orange Walk, beginning at Banquitas
Follow the mapped interpretation points through central Orange Walk, choosing a route that includes Main Street, the churches and Municipal Market area. The trail’s panels use historical photographs and short accounts to explain change. Continue beyond the museum already visited rather than repeating it, and allow a food stop to make this a town walk rather than a race between signs.

New River Lagoon, regional excursion from Orange Walk
Explore the archaeological reserve with time for the visitor interpretation as well as its prominent Maya structures. The tourism board highlights the sculpted ruler’s mask and a long occupation history, with later colonial remains adding other layers. The two-hour allowance covers a selected on-site visit only; the New River boat approach is a substantial additional part of the excursion.

A note before you go. Start the town visit at Banquitas, where you can obtain information about the self-guided heritage trail and its ten interpretation points. Book Lamanai as a separate New River excursion from Orange Walk and confirm the return landing. Our two-hour archaeological allowance excludes the boat journey, wildlife stops and meals, so the complete outing will be substantially longer. All durations are editorial estimates.
