Ridge above the river confluence
Wangdue Phodrang Dzong
Founded in the seventeenth century, the dzong occupies a commanding ridge between the Punatsang Chhu and Dang Chhu. The setting helps explain its administrative and religious roles. Begin with the exterior and landscape, then follow local visitor guidance for access to the courtyards; a working dzong is not an unrestricted monument.
