The salt flat is the reason to travel beyond Uyuni, rather than a sight in its town centre. Arrange a vehicle excursion and ask exactly which parts of the salar the route includes. Seasonal surface conditions determine the experience; a photograph of the mirror effect is not a promise for your own dates.

Uyuni
a couple of km south of town, by the railway to Chile, there are dozens of old, rusted locomotives, a few wagons and some other antiquated machinery. Usually a stop on salt flat trips.
