THE SHORTLIST

A few places worth your time.

01Outdoors · DAY 1 IDEA

Regional connection · start at Riomaggiore

Via dell’Amore

The coastal path connects Riomaggiore with Manarola, but it requires its own access planning. The park currently directs visitors to enter from Riomaggiore and leave at Manarola, with a reserved time slot. Check the park’s current rules before setting off; do not rely on older advice telling you to start the walk at Manarola station.

Village waterfront

Manarola harbour and belvedere

The harbour and surrounding viewpoints show how the village fits between rock, sea and terraced slopes. Take the public lanes slowly and leave passage for residents; narrow viewpoints are shared spaces. This is a place to pause rather than a promise of swimming access or a reason to climb onto exposed rocks.

Upper Manarola

Church of San Lorenzo

Climb through the village lanes to San Lorenzo for a change from the familiar harbour photograph. The church gives the upper part of Manarola a clear destination, while the slopes explain why even a small village takes time to explore. Respect worship and check local arrangements before planning an interior visit.

A note before you go. Start with Via dell’Amore, then decide whether Manarola harbour and belvedere deserves a separate visit rather than rushing both. The suggested days are an editable grouping, not a timed tour. Visit allowances exclude transfers, meals and queues; confirm the exact entrance and current visiting arrangements for Church of San Lorenzo before setting off.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

A more practical kind of plan.

Build a route that makes sense

Keep Via dell’Amore as the anchor for one day and Church of San Lorenzo for the other. Check their exact entrances on the map before adding further stops; a town name alone is not a reliable meeting point.
