THE SHORTLIST

A few places worth your time.

01Culture · DAY 1 IDEA

Jongno

Gyeongbokgung Palace

The large courtyards and gates give a clear introduction to the Joseon royal capital. Concentrate on the palace layout and a few buildings instead of trying to photograph every hall. Check the official visitor arrangements, and leave an unscheduled break after the visit before walking into nearby districts.

02Neighborhoods · DAY 1 IDEA

Bukchon

Bukchon Hanok Village

The traditional houses are the attraction, but the neighbourhood is also home to residents. Choose the authorised walking route, keep conversations quiet and avoid photographing private interiors or doorways. A restrained visit is more appropriate here than a prolonged photo session in the middle of a narrow lane.

Jongno

Changdeokgung Palace

Changdeokgung is worth a separate visit rather than adding it to an already crowded palace day. Give its buildings and landscaped setting your attention, and decide in advance whether a garden visit matters to you. Check the relevant reservation rules instead of assuming every part is included in general entry.

Downtown Seoul

Cheonggyecheon Stream

Walk a short section of this restored stream to see another side of central Seoul below the traffic level. Choose an entrance and exit that suit your next stop; the full waterway is far longer than a casual stroll. During heavy rain, obey closure signs and remain on the permitted paths.

A note before you go. Check palace closure days and any garden reservations before assigning dates. Bukchon is residential and has visitor controls; follow the current permitted routes and visiting periods on site.
